What We Do

We specialize in qualitative research designed to highlight program impacts and capture the lived experiences of clients. Through careful, rigorous, and ethical research practices, we help organizations articulate how and why their programs matter.

Understanding the Experiences That Create Lasting Change

Mission-driven organizations exist to improve people's lives. Whether the focus is on housing, behavioral health services, workforce development, child welfare and family support, education, or other community-based issues, their success ultimately depends on understanding the people they serve. Yet some of the most important questions remain difficult to answer. Questions like: How do participants experience our programs? What barriers limit success? Which aspects of our services create the greatest impact? How can we strengthen our work and communicate its value more effectively? These are questions about human experience and they require more than performance measures or outcome statistics; they necessitate careful listening, thoughtful analysis, and rigorous qualitative research.

At Kitrosser Associates, we partner with nonprofit organizations, foundations, and public agencies to generate the insight they need to strengthen programs, demonstrate impact, and make better decisions.

Qualitative Social Impact Research

Our research focuses on program impacts and peoples’ experiences. Methods include: in-depth, in-person interviews (IDIs) with program participants; key informant interviews with staff, partners, and other stakeholders; and systematic case file analysis, along with other appropriate qualitative data collection strategies. All data are examined using rigorous thematic analysis and are translated into multi-case briefs that illustrate individual or family journeys while highlighting broader program effects. These products feature narrative summaries that integrate participant voices with contextual analysis and are presented in clear, accessible reports designed for funders, boards, and the public.

Mixed-Method Storytelling

While our work is primarily qualitative, we can incorporate descriptive statistics drawn from administrative or program records—such as service utilization, retention, or outcome indicators—to complement and strengthen qualitative findings. These data are used strategically to add context without overshadowing client voices.

Why Qualitative Research?

Organizations collect more data than ever before, yet many of their most important questions remain unanswered. Quantitative measures tell us what is happening. Qualitative research explains why. By listening systematically to the people closest to your work, qualitative research reveals patterns, motivations, challenges, and opportunities that numbers alone cannot capture. When combined with existing program data, it provides a more complete understanding of organizational impact and a stronger foundation for decision-making.

From Research to Action

Research has little value unless it helps organizations move forward. Every project is designed to produce practical insight that clients can use to strengthen programs, communicate impact, inspire funder confidence, and make thoughtful decisions about the future. That is the purpose of our work.

WHAT WE HELP ORGANIZATIONS ACHIEVE

Stronger Evidence of Impact

Numbers tell part of the story. Qualitative research explains the human experiences behind those outcomes, creating a richer and more credible understanding of organizational impact.

Better Programs

By listening directly to program participants, staff, and community stakeholders, we help organizations understand what is working, where challenges exist, and how services can be improved.

More Effective Fundraising

Funders increasingly want more than outputs and counts—they want to understand impact. Our research products are designed to help organizations demonstrate program effectiveness in grant proposals; provide funders with concrete, human-centered evidence of outcomes; strengthen annual reports, donor communications, and impact statements; and equip development staff with persuasive stories rooted in systematic research. Rather than anecdotal testimonials, we deliver research-informed narratives that funders can trust.
